How to indicate a change of tenant?

When a tenant leaves the unit and a new one moves in, do not modify the existing contract: terminate it, then create a new contract for the new tenant.

Written by Pauline Marchand

Simply changing the tenant's name or the dates of the existing contract leads to several problems:

  • The financial history becomes incorrect;

  • The communication history is distorted;

  • The proposed indexations may be wrong;

  • The overall tracking of the contract is no longer reliable.

To ensure correct data, follow the procedure below.

Steps to follow

  1. Terminate the outgoing tenant's contract. See: How to terminate a contract?

  2. Create a new contract for the new tenant. See: How to add a contract?

Each tenant must have their own contract, in order to keep a clear and correct history.
